My heavy metal knowledge is limited. But fortunately, Metallica doesn't fall into that gap.
Immensely popular, able to bridge wide divides between listeners in the music underground and mainstream, the band thrashed their way through the 80's and 90's like few other groups.
The members are consummate musicians. They're technically excellent, creative, and grounded in metal, punk and even classical influences.
I need to be in the right mood for Metallica. In the same way, I need to be in the right mood for Wagner, Fritz Lang's Metropolis, or reading Nietzsche.
They attract and repel, and are difficult to approach. Their intensity can be overwhelming.
But they do certainly rock.
